Box Score

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Niagara Purple Eagles recorded their fifth straight victory with a 6-1 defeat of the Rider Broncs on Saturday.

Niagara (11-6, 4-2 MAAC) secured a spot in this month’s conference tournament with the win. Niagara will be either the second or third seed in this season’s MAAC Tournament from April 28-29 at the Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J.

“I am happy with the way both teams approached today’s matches,” head coach Anthony Nguyen said about the men’s and women’s teams.

NU rolled in doubles, highlighted by an 8-0 win by No. 1 team David Raymond and Brandon Gallegos, en route to winning the point. In singles, senior Joseph Zelic won his first singles dual of the spring semester with a 6-4, 7-5 in No. 1 singles. Olivier Dufour-CoursolMathieu Lacasse and David Lemieux-Sarrasin all cruised to straight set wins while Matt Bojanowski battled his way to a 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 victory in his first singles match of the spring.

“It was good to see Matt (Bojanowski) pull out a nice win,” Nguyen said.

The Purple Eagles’ five-match winning streak is their longest streak since winning five straight in March 2010 and their four conference wins are their most since 2007-08 season.
