NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles are back on the road this weekend as they head to Iona to take on the Gaels for a three-game set.
Eric Hink has taken over the top batting average for Niagara (11-17, 3-5 MAAC), hitting .395 through the teams 28 games. The third baseman is one of five players on the Purple Eagles with an average over .300 and one of four with an on base percentage over .400.
Jim Fort (2-1) takes the mound in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader. The lefthander has 29 strikeouts in 37.2 innings pitched. He’ll take on Eddie Macaluso (2-4), who has a 3.48 ERA in his eight starts in 2012.
The Gaels (12-20, 4-5 MAAC) enter the series winning three of their last five outings. This weekend will be their second home series of the season. They went 2-1 in the only other home series when they hosted the Fairfield Stags.
