Niagara Tennis Falls In Last Match Of Spring Break Tour

Men's Box Score | Women's Box Score

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Niagara tennis programs wrapped up their spring break tour with identical 6-1 defeats to the Creighton Bluejays on Thursday.

“The good news is we have two teams of competitors who are going to fight and claw until the end,” head coach Anthony Nguyen said. “The girls fought hard today, but unfortunately came up short. On the guy’s side, we have to learn to do a better job of closing out sets and matches. Bottom line is we just didn’t get the job done today. We will have to figure some things out before we get into conference play next week.”

The men’s team (2-4) and women’s team (3-5) both went 1-2 in three matches played on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., with each team beating Robert Morris.

The men’s side was swept in doubles play despite falling in close matches in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Brandon Gallegos and David Raymond lost 8-5 to Billy Paluch and J.T. Christian in top doubles, while Lorenz Schwojer and Olivier Dufour Coursol were edged, 9-7, by Elliot Baker and Kyle Obermeier.

In singles, Gallegos was unable to hold off Christian, falling in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. The Purple Eagles cut the lead to 3-1 when Coursol knocked off Ryan Norman, 6-4, 6-3, for fourth straight singles win and NU’s lone singles win.

The women’s team also lost all three doubles matches to lose the doubles point. Hilary Hansen grinded out a straight set win over Jennie Harties, 7-6 (4), 6-4, in No. 1 singles to go unbeaten during the tour.

The Niagara men’s and women’s tennis teams will next be in action at Mount St. Mary on Friday, March 16 at 3 p.m.
