NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. – The Niagara men’s tennis team defeated the Saint Peter’s Peacocks, 5-2, on Sunday.
“We were not at our best today,” head coach
Anthony Nguyen said. “We will have to play better next week to have any success.”
Niagara, which was has won three of its last four matches, had solid play in No. 3, 4 and 5 singles. The Purple Eagles won the doubles point after
Brandon Gallegos and
David Raymond won in No. 1 singles, 8-3, and Saint Peter’s (2-12, 0-2 MAAC) defaulted in No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Gallegos rallied from a set down to beat Charlie Carrera, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3, in No. 3 singles. SPC tied the match at 2-2, but the Purple Eagles were dominant in four and five singles with
Olivier Dufour-Coursol and
David Lemieux-Sarrasin winning convincingly in straight sets.
NU heads on the road this week for two conference matches against Siena (March 30) and Marist (March 31).
