Box Score

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Niagara baseball team was swept by Eastern Michigan when the Eagles won Sunday’s game 12-5 at Oestrike Stadium.

The Purple Eagles (7-10) took the lead twice early in the game.  Their first lead came in the second, when Ryan McCauley led off the frame with a solo home run for his eighth round-tripper of the year.  Wynton Bernard doubled and was brought home by a Jon Wilson sac fly to give Niagara the 2-0 lead.

Eastern Michigan (6-12) came back in its half of the second to tie the game at 2-2 but Niagara would be back on top in the third.  McCauley doubled to bring in Adam Wagner, who had singled as the first batter up in the inning, to give Niagara the 3-2 lead.

The Eagles took their first lead of the game when they scored four runs on three hits in the third to go up 6-2.  EMU extended its lead in both the sixth and seventh bringing across four and three runs respectively, to go up 12-3.

The Purple Eagles chipped into the deficit in the ninth when Eric Hink scored on a throwing error and a Jon Wilson single scored Bernard to bring the score to 12-5 but that would be as close as Niagara would come.

McCauley had a team-high two RBIs and Bernard had a team-high two runs scored.  Jim Fort received the start and the loss after pitching 5.1 innings and giving up eight runs.
