YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Niagara baseball team was topped by the Eastern Michigan Eagles, 15-1, on Saturday afternoon at Oestrike Stadiium.
Niagara (7-9) scored its lone run of the afternoon in the second inning. Trailing 3-0,
Ryan McCauley led off the inning with a double that was immediately followed by a
Wynton Bernard double down the right field line that brought the Purple Eagles within two runs, 3-1.
That was as close as Niagara would come as Eastern Michigan (5-12) collected 18 hits over the afternoon that brought in 15 runs. Twice the Eagles were able to score three runs in an inning and twice they scored four runs.
“Give Eastern credit, they laid a beating on us today,” head coach
Rob McCoy said. “I challenged these guys to respond tomorrow. We talk about taking punches and still fighting hard all the time. That’s what we intend to do tomorrow.”
After starting the game
Jordan Schwartz received the loss giving up ten runs on ten hits over five innings.
Niagara plays its final game against EMU on Sunday at 1 p.m.
