The Niagara tennis programs are back home to host the Bucknell Bison on Friday at 5 p.m. at the SportsPlex.
There will be some familiarity between the programs as Niagara participated in the Bison Quad, hosted by Bucknell, in October.
The women’s team made its season debut at the tournament and had a strong showing by senior
Hilary Hansen. The Prince Edwards Island native defeated defeating Bucknell’s Courtney Casey, 6-4, 6-2; Alyssa McAndrews, 8-3; and Elena Vidrascu, 8-2 en route to advancing to the Flight A championship. Freshman
Maria Ortiz also picked a win by defeating Lydia Colvin, 7-2, 6-2. The NU women’s squad is 2-0 after victories over Colgate and Youngstown State. Ortiz and classmate
Ashley Ta are both 2-0 in singles, while the No. 1 doubles team of Hansen and
Iva Celan are 2-0.
On the men’s side, the doubles duo of
Brandon Gallegos and
David Raymond advanced to the Bison Quad semifinals before falling to Bucknell’s Gregg Cohenca and Evan Zimmer, 8-2. Raymond, a freshman, leads the team with a 2-0 record in No. 2 singles. The men’s team will in search of its first win of the season after defeats to Colgate and Youngstown State.
