BALTIMORE – The Niagara volleyball program extended its win streak against the Loyola Greyhounds to 10 matches with a four-set win (25-21, 25-14, 22-25, 25-16) on Saturday at Reitz Arena.
The Purple Eagles (13-10, 10-3 MAAC) are warming up down the stretch and are on a season-best four-match winning streak. Niagara remains in second place in the MAAC and is a half-game behind Fairfield (16-8, 11-3 MAAC) for first place.
“We played well and executed a good game plan,” head coach
Dottie Porch stated. “Kari (Honomichl) and Ellen (Senf) had great matches offensively to lead us to the win.”
Three Purple Eagles were in double-digit kills, led by senior
Kari Honomichl who had a match-high 16 kills.
Ellen Senf and
Amanda Sedore added 11 kills each, which are a career-high for Sedore.
Senior
Michelle James had her seventh double-double of the season with match-high 40 assists and 12 digs.
Allison Reis led the match with 22 digs to extend her streak of double-digit digs in every match this season.
Niagara jumped out to a 10-2 lead to opening the match before Loyola (13-11, 6-7 MAAC) closed the gap to 12-11. The Purple Eagles built their lead to back up to eight points and a kill by
Amanda Wilken closed the set at 25-21. NU cruised to a 25-14 second set win behind .333 hitting, however the Greyhounds kept the match alive by squeaking past the Purple Eagles in the third set, 25-22. Niagara rebounded in the fourth set by winning the set, 25-16, with a match-high .345 hitting percentage.
Niagara will conclude the weekend with a match versus Rider on Sunday at 1 p.m.
