EDISON, N.J. – Niagara volleyball sophomore Mia Schaefer has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Libero of the Year and to the All-MAAC Second Team the conference office announced on Thursday.
Schaefer becomes the fourth Purple Eagle in program history to earn Libero of the Year honors, joining Rylee Hunt, Amanda Darling and Bella Peroni.
Schaefer averaged 5.44 digs per set during the 2025 regular season, leading the MAAC and ranking third nationally. Her total of 566 digs placed first in the conference and sixth among all NCAA players and is the sixth-most in a single season by a Purple Eagle.
Schaefer, who recorded 15 matches with 20 or more digs, notched a season and career-high 33 in Niagara's five-set win over Merrimack on Nov. 15. The Willoughby, Ohio, native also set a career-high with 24 service aces and 124 assists.
The conference also announced the MAAC All-Academic Team. The Purple Eagles had 10 athletes awarded.
