NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles swimming and diving teams are back in action this weekend when they host Waterloo on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Oxy Aquatic Center.
MAAC Men’s Swimming of the Week
Shane Baxter continues to find success in the pool, breaking his own Niagara record in the 100 backstroke as the lead leg in the medley relay during the 141-87 loss to Colgate. He finished the event in 51.67, beating his previous time by .38 seconds. Baxter was also victorious in the 200 yard backstroke event (1:55.14). The previous meet against Bryant saw him place first in both the 200 yard IM (1:59.38) and the 100 yard backstroke (52.05).
Senior
Ian O'Rourke qualified for the NCAA Zone A Championship after his stellar performance on the board. He was honored as MAAC Men’s Diver of the Week after finishing first in the three-meter event (292.90) and the one-meter event (333.60) in the 125-112 defeat to Bryant. O’Rourke swept the one-meter (306.90) and the three-meter diving event (316.73) against Colgate.
The Purple Eagles also had strong performances from freshman
Corban Bothell, sophomore
Cody Heimbrock and senior
Nick Squire.
On the women's side, senior
Ashley Jones was named MAAC Women's Diver of the Week for her top finishes in the diving events. She set a new Niagara three-meter diving record with her final score of 245.99 during the 170-70 loss to Colgate and also placed second in the one-meter event (237.22). In the dual-meet loss to Byrant and Siena, the senior took top honors in the one-meter event (230.30).
Junior
Julia Bulmahn swam well during the loss to Colgate, earning second in the 200 yard backstroke (2:14.64) while teammate
Aubrey Kettrick came in second in the 500 yard freestyle (5:25.71).
The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
