Cross Country Takes Second Place At Little Three

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Niagara men's and women's cross country teams both finished in second place at the 2010 Little Three Championship meet on Saturday afternoon at Delaware Park. Canisius took both team titles, while St. Bonaventure finished in third place in both events.

Canisius edged the Purple Eagles by four points, 27-31, to take the men's title. Mike Trendell was Niagara's top finisher in the men's 8k event, finishing in third place with a time of 26:01. Behind Trendell was Sam Reedy (26:35) in fifth place, Vincent Donner (26:41) in sixth place and Brian Traugott (26:42) in seventh place. Jason Fischer was the fifth Purple Eagle to cross the finishline, clocking in at 26:57, good for 10th place.

In the women's 5k event, Canisius defeated Niagara by a 23-34 margin. Niagara was led by Kim Vona (18:18), finishing in second place overall. Following Vona was Nicole Mehlman (18:45) in fifth place, Stephanie Schmidt (19:34) in seventh place, Lindsey Phillips (19:45) in eighth place and Jessica Spellane (20:53) in 12th place.

Ten runners for the Purple Eagles set personal records at the Little Three Championship meet. For the men's team, Donner, Reedy, Lamb and Trendell set new marks to break, while Sarah Doucette (21:52), Mehlman, Angel Nardolilio (23:43), Phillips, Schmidt, and Vona set new personal records for the women's team.  

The Purple Eagles will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 1 at the 2010 Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh.
