RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Niagara volleyball team (9-5, 2-1 MAAC) picked up a road conference victory at Manhattan (5-8, 1-2 MAAC) on Saturday, 3-1. The Purple Eagles dropped the first set before rolling in the final three sets for the win, 23-25, 25-12, 25-15, 25-11.
The victory gave the Purple Eagles back-to-back MAAC victories for the first time since Nov. 13, 2005, and gave third year head coach Susan Clements her career-high in wins for a season. Niagara now sits in a third-place tie in the MAAC at 2-1 in the early portion of the 2009 season.
"We had a great, mentally tough match," Clements said. " We served effective and we had great ball control. Kathy (Bibler) was tremendous in the middle for us."
Kathy Bibler (Bowling Green, Ohio) continued her recent hot streak with 20 kills in 29 attempts for a .552 hitting percentage. In her last five matches, the sophomore middle blocker has 64 kills to just seven errors and a .425 hitting percentage.
Classmate Hannah Hedrick (Cincinnati, Ohio) collected 17 kills and 17 digs for her 12th double-double of the season. She attacked at a .326 clip. Junior Shannon Ryan (Fairport, N.Y.) added seven kills without an error for a .467 hitting mark.
Michelle James (Cincinnati, Ohio) totaled 50 assists and 15 digs, while Sam Morgan (Cincinnati, Ohio) collected a match-high 18 digs to extend her MAAC-best double-digit dig streak to 44 matches.
Freshman Kari Honomichl (Petersburg, Mich.) chipped in with 13 kills in the win. Junior Rebecca Suchy (Lancaster, N.Y.) contributed 10 digs, while sophomore Lisa Bilich (Pittsburgh, Pa.) turned the momentum to NU's favor with five-straight service points in the second set.
