NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. - The Niagara baseball team (12-23) bounced back to win the second game of a Tuesday doubleheader against St. Bonaventure at Sal Maglie Stadium. The Purple Eagles batted around in the fifth inning, scoring five times en route to the 9-3 victory.
Niagara received a quality start from senior Chris Coleman (Pittsford, N.Y.) in the opening game, but the Bonnies won the opener 3-1, scoring two unearned runs thanks to five NU errors in the loss. Coleman went the distance for his first career complete game, striking out five while allowing nine hits in the seven-inning affair.
In the second game, Niagara fell behind 3-1 and scored the games final eight runs, including five times in the bottom of the fifth to blow the game open. Junior Timothy Cozier (Ajax, Ont.) lined a double over the third base bag, scoring classmate Trevor Rutkowski (Crystal Lake, Ill.). Niagara would score four more times in the frame, all with two outs.
Right fielder Cam Stykemain (Defiance, Ohio) collected four hits and three RBIs on the day. He finished game one 3-for-3 for the second-straight game and plated three runs in the nightcap. Second baseman Keith Picconi (Merrick, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 in game two, scoring once and knocking in two more.
Senior Mark Sikorski (Toronto, Ont.) earned his third win of the season, pitching six innings, allowing three runs, two earned.
