Baseball Drops Two at St. Bonaventure

Cam Stykemain

OLEAN, N.Y. - The Niagara baseball team (7-18) dropped a pair of mid-week non-conference games to Little 3 Rival St. Bonaventure (13-7) on Tuesday. The Purple Eagles lost the opener, 10-4, in seven innings before falling in nine innings in the nightcap, 6-5.

Niagara took a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth on a perfectly executed one-out suicide squeeze play. Junior Jason Cramer (Jackson, N.J.) laid down the bunt and sophomore Cam Stykemain (Defiance, Ohio) raced home from third to take the lead. However, the Bonnies scored twice in the bottom of the ninth for the win.

Freshman Wynton Bernard (Poway, Calif.) had three hits and scored three runs on the afternoon. Stykemain and Brian Deering (Springfield, Va.) each had a three-hit game. Stykemain's came in game two, with a 3-for-5 effort, while Deering went 3-for-3 in the opener.

Matt Jordan (Orangeburg, N.Y.) and Adam Wagner (Defiance, Ohio) were the pitchers of record. Jordan started game one and lasted two innings, allowing six runs on six hits. Wagner pitched the final three-plus innings of game two.

The Purple Eagles (3-3) travel to Fairfield (3-0) for a three-game MAAC series on Saturday and Sunday.
