Niagara built a 6-0 lead, but had to use extra innings to earn its second MAAC victory of the year in the opening game. Sophomore Brian Deering (Springfield, Va.) brought home Timothy Cozier (Ajax, Ont.) and Matt Lucchesi (San Francisco, Calif.) when his at bat ended with a fielding error on the Peacock center fielder, giving NU the 8-6 advantage.
All Niagara starters ended up with a hit, led by junior shortstop Jason Cramer's (Jackson, N.J.) 3-for-3 performance. He had a pair of singles, a double, was hit by a pitch and provided a key sacrifice bunt in the 10th inning. The shortstop also knocked in two runs in NU's 4-run sixth inning.
Junior right hander Marcus Spaulding (Copenhagen, N.Y.) earned another quality start, scattering two runs on eight hits over 7.2 innings. He left the game with a 6-2 lead. The only extra base hit he allowed was a first-inning double. Adam Wagner (Defiance, Ohio) earned his first win in relief.

SPC's Ethan Jackson tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout in the second game of a doubleheader. NU's Joe Candelmo (Orefield, Pa.) took the loss.
Cozier collected two of the team's four hits, while Luchessi and Matt Wietlispach (Chicago, Ill.) scored the others. Wietlispach had a one-out double in the third, but was stranded at third base.
The two teams face off in the rubber match on Sunday at noon.
