KENT, Ohio - The Niagara baseball team (5-15) dropped both games of a doubleheader at Kent State (15-5) on Wednesday. The Golden Flashes won game one, 12-3, before earning the comeback victory, 9-7, in the second game.
Senior Mark Sikorski (Toronto, Ont.) took the loss in the opening game, allowing seven earned runs in 4.1 innings. Sophomore Brian Deering (Springfield, Va.) took the loss in game two in relief. He faced three batters, who all scored, without recording an out. He allowed the game-winning three-run home run in the fifth inning of the six inning game.
Trevor Rutkowski (Crystal Lake, Ill.), Keith Picconi (Merrick, N.Y.), Jason Allinder (Pocomoke City, Md.) and Adam Wagner (Defiance, Ohio) gave the Purple Eagles a 7-2 lead. Allinder had a pair of doubles in game two, while collecting an RBI and scoring a run. Rutkowski brought home two more with a fourth-inning double. Picconi and Wagner eached collected RBI-singles in the loss.
Alex Otto (Lockport, N.Y.) and Timothy Cozier (Ajax, Ont.) each collected three hits on the afternoon. Cozier brought home Otto with a double in game one, while Otto added an RBI in both games.
The Purple Eagles (1-2) travel to Saint Peter's (0-3) for a three-game MAAC series this weekend.
