NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept the visiting Waterloo Warriors at the Niagara University pool on Saturday afternoon by scores of 144-118 and 143-112, respectively.
The women's team (4-5) was led by the 400 medley relay team of freshman Julia Bulmahn (Clarence, N.Y.), senior Stephanie Gartley (Camlachie, Ont.), freshman Lindsey Jackson (Marietta, Ga.) and senior Ashley Clingersmith (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) that set a new Niagara record, finishing in first place with a time of 4:05.45, bettering the 2003 mark by two seconds. Each member of the relay team would also win individual events as well, with Bulmahn taking top honors in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke, Gartley in the 100 yard breastroke, Jackson in the 100 yard butterfly and 200 IM, while Clingersmith won the 200 yard freestyle event.
The men's team (4-3) was led by double-winner junior Jon Matchette (Kenmore, N.Y.) who won the 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard backstroke. Senior Dane Deehr (Woodinville, Wash.) was victorious in the 1,000 yard freestyle event, junior Evinn Drusys (Yucaipa, Calif.) won the 50 yard freestyle event and senior Ian McCoy (Redlands, Calif.) won the 500 yard freestyle event. Senior Matt Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind.) won his first collegiate event against the Warriors, winning the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.21.
The Purple Eagles are back in action when they participate in the Akron Invitational, which begins Dec. 4.
