Baseball Drops A Pair at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, N.C. - The Niagara baseball team (4-3) dropped both games of a double header at Wofford on Saturday. The high-octane Purple Eagle offense sputtered at Russell C. King Field, scoring just one run in 4-0 and 7-1 losses.

Wofford 4, Niagara 0
The Purple Eagles managed just five hits, a season low, in the 4-0 loss. Niagara outhit the opposition 79-37 in the previous five games.  Niagara had four runners reach third base, but couldn't put together a timely hit to score runs. Senior Tim Alberts (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) collected a pair of singles in the loss.

Senior Mark Wilson (Peterborough, Ont.) dropped to 0-2 on the season after allowing four runs on five hits in four innings.

Wofford 7, Niagara 1
The Purple Eagles managed just one run, a sixth-inning unearned score by Alberts in the game two defeat. Niagara had six hits, but again couldn't scratch out a timely base-knock on Saturday.

Clint Elkins (Kansas City, Mo.) led the offense, going 2-for-3. Junior Dan Morari (Saskatoon, Sask.) allowed 11 hits and six runs in 5.2 innings pitch to fall to 1-1 on the season.
