Baseball Drops A Pair of MAAC Contests at Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The baseball team (13-26, 2-15 MAAC) lost two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games at Marist (15-27, 9-10 MAAC) Saturday at McCann Field. The Purple Eagles lost 8-7 and 11-2 to up their conference losing streak to 12 games.

Senior James Boyack (Buffalo, N.Y.) allowed five runs in relief to earn the loss in game one, while sophomore Mark Sikorski (Toronto, Ont.) fell to 1-2 with the loss in the second game.

Junior Tim Alberts (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) collected a team-high five hits in the doubleheader, including a 3-for-3 effort in game two.

Marist 8, Niagara 7

Junior Harrison Harber (Kanata, Ont.) went 2-for-5 with a career-high four RBIs in the loss. With Niagara trailing 8-5 in the ninth inning, the second baseman lined a one-out, bases-loaded single to centerfield, plating two. The Purple Eagles followed up with a game-ending double play with the tying-run on third base.

Junior Mark Wilson (Peterborough, Ont.) went 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on nine hits, and left trailing 3-1. Niagara scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score at 3-3, but Boyack allowed two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh, falling to 0-3 on the season.

Junior Andrew Macdonald (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) lined a pinch-hit, two-run, two-out single to left field in the eighth inning, to inch the Purple Eagles closer at 8-5.

Marist 11, Niagara 2

Two big innings doomed Niagara in an 11-2 loss. The Red Foxes opened game two with four runs in the first and seven in the sixth.

Alberts scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth to make the score 4-2, but Marist sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the inning, scoring seven times.

The Purple Eagles conclude their three-game set with Marist, Sunday at noon.
