NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The baseball team (13-29, 2-18 MAAC) lost two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games at home to Rider (18-16, 11-11 MAAC) Saturday at Sal Maglie Stadium. Junior outfielder Frank Kurnik (Reno, Nev.) collected three RBIs in the doubleheader.
Sophomore Mark Sikorski (Toronto, Ont.) and junior Mark Wilson (Peterborough, Ont.) took the hill and the loses, extending Niagara’s conference losing streak to 15 games.
Junior Tim Alberts (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) was the lone Purple Eagle to collect multiple hits in both contests.
Rider 8, Niagara 4
Kurnik went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the game one loss, picking up three-straight singles to start the game.
The Purple Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead and and tied the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth, but five unanswered runs in the final three inning doomed Niagara. Sikorski fell to 1-3, pitching 6 1/3 innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on five hits.
Alberts collected a pair of singles in the loss and picked up the other RBI in the final inning.
Rider 6, Niagara 4
Alberts went 2-for-3 and scored twice, but Niagara allowed four runs in the final three innings in the 6-4 loss.
Wilson also allowed five runs, three earned, in the loss, and fell to 4-8 on the season.
The Purple Eagles conclude their three-game set with Rider, Sunday at 1 p.m. following a ceremony.
