Junior Mark Wilson (Peterborough, Ont.) took the loss in the opening game, allowing six runs in 4 1/3 innings. The right-hander fell to 4-6, giving up six hits and walking five while strking out four.
Junior Steve Baldinelli (Niagara Falls, Ont.) scored the lone Purple Eagle run in game one. After a leadoff double in the second inning, senior Brian Clifford (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon) lined a one-out single into right field.

Manhattan 3, Niagara 1
The Purple Eagles faired much better in the second game, as Ryan Virtue (Stittsville, Ont.) took the tough-luck loss. The senior left-hander allowed three runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Manhattan took a 1-0 lead on a single up the middle that plated leadoff hitter Kevin Nieto. Virtue retired 13 of 14 batters between the second and sixth innings.
Niagara knotted the scored with a little small ball and a Jasper error. Frank Kurnik (Reno, Nev.) dropped a perfect bunt down the third baseline. The Manhattan third baseman bare-handed the ball and threw it into right field after Kurnik reached safely. The center fielder round second and slid into third base on the error.
Manhattan's Josh Santerre struck out the next two batters before Tim Alberts (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) reached on an infield single to shortstop, tying the score at 1-1.
Derba delivered the crucial blow with his second two-run home run of the day, a blast to left center plating the winning runs.
Alberts crushed a leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh, but was left stranded in the loss.
The Purple Eagles and Jaspers conclude their three-game series with a noon contest Sunday at Sal Maglie Stadium.
