SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The baseball team (12-15, 2-7 MAAC) was swept by the second place team in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Le Moyne (13-15, 8-2 MAAC), Saturday at Dick Rockwell Field. The Purple Eagles were outscored 23-3 in the doubleheader.
Both starters were tagged with 10 runs each, as junior Mark Wilson (Peterborough, Ont.) and Matt Ircandia (Calgary, Alb.) took the losses. All of the runs scored against Wilson (4-5) were earned as the junior gave up 12 hits in 3 2/3 innings. Ircandia (3-4) gave up eight earned on seven hits in three innings.
Le Moyne 10, Niagara 2
Junior Steve Baldinelli (Niagara Falls, Ont.) extended his hitting streak to six games in game one, going 3-for-4 with a home run. Freshman Jason Cramer (Jackson, N.J.) scored the Purple Eagles other run as junior Andrew Macdonald (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) picked up his eighth MAAC RBI of the season.
Dolphin starter and last season's MAAC Pitcher of the Year Bobby Blevins (4-2) went the distance, allowing five hits while striking out 11. Le Moyne picked up all 10 runs in the third and fourth innings.
Le Moyne 13, Niagara 1
Le Moyne sophomore Eric Beaulac improved to 4-0 in MAAC contests, with a complete game three-hitter. Niagara jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Cramer scored an unearned run, but Beaulac kept the Purple eagles off balance, striking out eight batters.
The two teams will close out the three-game series Sunday at 10 a.m. at Dick Rockwell Field.
