NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The baseball team (9-10, 2-3 MAAC) received two solid outings from its starting pitchers in a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) victories over Iona (7-14, 3-2 MAAC), Saturday, in its home opener at Sal Maglie Stadium.
Junior Mark Wilson (Peterborough, Ont.) went seven innings, earning his team-high fourth win of the year in the 4-1 win in game one. Senior Matt Ircandia (Calgary, Alb.) allowed one hit in a complete-game win in game two, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning and striking out a career-high nine batters.
"Two wins was exactly what we were looking for today," Niagara head coach Chris Chernisky said. "We played a good opponent that was coming off of a sweep last weekend, and I am very pleased the our effort today. I knew that we were going to play better this weekend and it showed today as we are hitting our stride more and more each game."

Kurnik led off the bottom of the first inning with a double in the left-center gap. He advanced to third on a fly out by junior Andrew Macdonald (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) and scored on an RBI ground out by second baseman Harrison Harber (Kanata, Ont.).
Macdonald picked up an RBI ground out in the third to give Niagara a 2-0 lead, scoring freshman Timothy Cozier (Ajax, Ont.). The rookie first baseman singled to open the inning and advanced to third after a single and an error by the Gael first baseman.
