Women’s Soccer Loses on Late Goal

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Rosamaria Rago of Central Michigan (5-0-0) scored the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory over Niagara University (2-2-0) with just over a minute remaining to extend its undefeated season.

Rago scored off a corner kick from Sarah Burns in the 88th minute when she slid the ball under Purple Eagle freshman Sarah Stephens (Toledo, Ohio).

The Chippewas took a 1-0 lead when Katy Boggan scored the first of her two goals on the day. In the five-minute mark, she headed the ball past Stephens into the bottom right corner. Jacquie Lacek earned the assist.

Niagara responded quickly when junior forward Brittany Bisnott (Brampton, Ont.) scored her 11th goal of the season in the seven-minute mark. She scored on a break away after senior Emily Montgomery (Oshawa, Ont.) gave her a leading pass.

Bisnott tallied her second goal of the game in the 14th minute to give Niagara a 2-1 lead. Junior Christina Langrell (Tillsonburg, Ont.) crossed the ball in front of the net where Bisnott tapped it by Anne Decker into the lower right corner. Bisnott is currently fourth on the program’s all-time points list with 78.

With her second goal, Boggan tied the game in the 41st minute when she placed it into the lower-left corner. Burns picked up the assist.

Stephens finished with six saves and Decker with two. Central Michigan out shot Niagara, 21-8.

In the first game of the Classic, Canisius defeated Cornell, 2-0.

The Purple Eagles return to action Sunday when they play Cornell at 1:30 p.m. Canisius and Central Michigan start the day at 11 a.m.
