Eastley Drives in Winning Run


Senior Reed Eastley was 2 for 3 and had the game-winning hit Friday afternoon.

FISHKILL, N.Y. – Senior Reed Eastley (Brandon, Man.) drove in the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning to help the Niagara University baseball team (24-27) beat Manhattan College (29-22), 2-0, in the double elimination 2005 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament at Dutchess Stadium Friday afternoon.

Eastley tripled to right field to scored junior Mike Alati (Woodbridge, Ont.), who got on with a single between shortstop and third base. Then with two outs, junior Jeff Vincent (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) came up with his second RBI single of the weekend with a hit to right field that scored Eastley.

Sophomore Dan Griffin (Schenectady, N.Y.) shut down the Jaspers in the bottom of the ninth, striking out two of the three batters.

Alati was 2 for 4 and Eastley 2 for 3 at the plate. Griffin improved to 6-4 on the mound, throwing a four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts in nine innings of work.

Niagara returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday when it meets the loser of the Siena College-Marist College game that begins at 3 p.m.
