Purple Eagles Beat Morehead State For First Win of the Season


Junior Vince Ircandia went 3 or 4 with a home run, two doubles and five runs batted in vs. Morehead State.

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University baseball team (1-7) beat Morehead State (4-8), 18-6, in Morehead, Ky., Friday to pick up its first win of the season.

Junior Vince Ircandia (Calgary, Alberta) went 3 or 4 with a home run, two doubles and five runs batted in. Classmate Reed Eastley (Brandon, Manitoba) was 2 for 5 with two home runs. The Purple Eagles hit a total of six home runs on the day.

"It was nice to see our bats come to life," Niagara head coach Mike McRae said. "We put numbers on the board, and I was pleased with the outstanding effort our bullpen put together as they threw four and half shutout inning in releif."

Freshman Ryan Virtue (Stittsville, Ontario) got the win on the mound throwing 2 and 2/3 innings in relief of classmate James Nikolaides (Dedham, Mass.).
