Jersey City, NJ- Niagara University swept rival St. Peters College this past weekend in the first conference series of the season. The Purple Eagles (8-8) won by scores of 10-0, 13-3, and 9-8.
Earning his first win of his senior year was right handed pitcher Sean Haggerty1-0 (Syracuse, NY). Haggerty shut out the Peacocks in game one of the Saturday doubleheader striking out six in eight innings of work. Receiving the win in game two was James Avery1-1 (Moose Jaw, SK), who struck out seven in six innings of work allowing no earned runs.
Leading the Purple Eagles offense was Josh McCurdy (Thornhill, Ont.) who was 4-9 on the day with 3 RBI's and Freshman Mike Alati (Woodbridge, Ont.) who went 4-6 on the day with four runs scored. Also having multi-hit games were Tim Fitzgerald (Orchard Park, NY) who went 4-6, Vince Ircandia (Calgary, Alb.) 4-9, and Greg Lehman (Croghan, NY) 3-9.
Earning the win in game three was freshman pitcher Matt Fuller 3-2 (Syracuse, NY). Josh McCurdy (3-4) delivered the game winning hit in the top of the 10th inning Monday afternoon as the Purple Eagles won 9-8 in 10 innings. With the win the Purple Eagles reached .500 for the first time in over a year.
The Purple Eagles return to the diamond on Thursday afternoon as they take on Pace University in White Plains New York. Game time is scheduled for a 2pm start.
