Niagara Wins In Dramatic Fashion

Charleston, SC- Josh McCurdy delivers game winning hit in the top of the tenth inning to lead the Purple Eagles to a 6-5 victory over the College of Charleston. Earning the win for the Purple Eagles was Matt Fuller, his first of his collegiate career.

Niagara got on the board first in the second inning when Mark Bomar scored on a throwing error by third basemen Adam Tolman. Charleston would answer right back in the bottom of the inning when Matt Lauderdale homered of Sean Haggerty.

Niagara would go up in the top of the third when Matt Fuller scored Josh McCurdy on a groundball to Pitcher. Josh McCurdy went 2-6 with 2 RBI's on the night.

Niagara would score in the top of the fifth to take the lead by two going into the bottom of the fifth. Charleston would knock on the door again as they cut the lead to one when Matt Hallett scored from third on a pick off play to first from Mark Bomar.

Charleston tied the Game in the bottom of the sixth inning when Stanley Nix hit a solo home run off Sean Haggerty. Charleston would take the lead in the eighth inning when Stanley Nix scored Brett Spivey on a single to left field.

Niagara would not roll over as they scored twice in the top of the ninth when Mark Bomar singled in Matt Fuller and Vince Ircandia with two outs.

Charleston would scratch back in the game when they scored in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game up at five.

Niagara started the bottom of the tenth with one quick out but would not quit as Ircandia earned a one out walk and advanced to second on a Matt Schaefer ground out. McCurdy doubled to the gap and scored Ircandia for the eventual game-winning run.

Matt Fuller came into pitch and slammed the door shut to record the win.

Having multi hit nights were Ircandia (3-5), Josh McCurdy (2-6, 2 RBI's), and Mark Bomar (3-5, 2 RBI's)

Sean Haggerty (6.0inn, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 5BB, 2K) and Steve Taylor (2.1inn, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB) received a no-decision, and Matt Fuller (1.2inn, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 4BB, 3K) received the win.

The Purple Eagles head back to the diamond tomorrow for a day-day double header starting at 12 noon against the Charleston Cougars.
