Niagara University, NY - Peter Kennedy in the U.S. Masters Swimming Short Course Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. broke two of his own USMS records in the 90-94 age group, going 1:35.51 in the 100 yard back and 44.46 in the 50 yard back. He would have had a third record but was disqualified in the 200 yard back after breaking his old record by six seconds. In all, he claimed four gold medals at the meet and was proud to showcase them with his Niagara Swimming shirt.
Kennedy's background comes from Ct. State in New England and Eastern High School champion in the 100 back and 150-yard medley relay. In 1953 at the National AAU Outdoor Championships in Indianapolis, he represented the Yale New Haven Swim Club. IN 1953 and 1954 Kennedy won both the two-mile Bridgeport and the three-mile New Haven Cross Harbor races as he set the record for the two-mile ocean swim of 39:30.
In 1955 at the National AAU Outdoor Championships, he was the backstroke leg on the winning 400-meter medley relay with the Yale New Haven Swim Club as his time was the new national and world record.
During his time at Niagara, he competed in backstroke along with the 220 and 440 free event free events. At Syracuse he won the 200-yard backstroke New York Championship.
