Prohorenkovs Competes for Latvian National Team in IIHF World Championships

Niagara University, N.Y. - Niagara junior forward Glebs Prohorenkovs recently represented his home country as a member of the Latvian National Team at the 2025 IIHF World Championships.

The 2025 IIHF World Championships featured 16 nations competing for the world title where Prohorenkovs was one of seven current NCAA players to appear in the tournament and one of three on the Latvian National Team.

The Riga, Latvia native gained valuable experience against elite competition, including matchups against powerhouses Canada and Sweden. Prohorenkovs played key minutes in Latvia's victories over Slovakia and France, bringing international recognition to Niagara University's hockey program.

"Representing my country at the World Championships has been a dream come true," said Prohorenkovs. "Competing against the best players in the world was an incredible experience that will help me grow both as a player and as a person. I'm grateful to Niagara University for supporting me in this opportunity."

During the tournament, Prohorenkovs showcased the skills that have made him a standout performer for the Niagara Purple Eagles. Throughout the 2024-25 collegiate season, he recorded 9 goals and 22 assists for 31 points while playing a key role for the team.

Niagara University Head Hockey Coach Jason Lammers expressed pride in Prohorenkovs' accomplishment: "Having Glebs compete at the World Championships speaks volumes about his talent and dedication. His experience playing against world-class competition will not only benefit his development. We're extremely proud of how he represented both Latvia and Niagara University on the international stage."

Prohorenkovs will return to Niagara for his senior season, where he will look to build upon his international experience and continue his development as one of the Purple Eagles' key players.
