Box Score Buffalo, NY - Men's Hockey outshoots Battle of the Bridge rival Canisius but ultimately fell 5-1 in Atlantic Hockey action Saturday night at the Harbor Center
The Purple Eagles wrap up the regular season 12-21-1, 9-16-1 AHA, while the Golden Griffins end the regular season at 17-16-2, 12-12-2 AHA.
Declan McDonnell opened the scoring for Niagara 7:07 into the contest, finishing off passes from Ross Roloson and Glebs Prohorenkovs.
The lead was short lived as Canisius responded less than two minutes later on the Power-Play when Alton McDermott beat Purple Eagles netminder Deivs Rolovs assisted by Walter Zacher and Grant Porter to knot the game up at one.
The Golden Griffins took the lead with just 34 seconds remaining in the first frame with McDermott burying his second of the contest, this time from Killian Kiecker-Olson and Carter Patterson.
Niagara peppered Canisius goaltender Chase Clark with 15 shots in the first period but were only able to beat him once.
The Golden Griffins doubled their lead halfway through the second frame when Rhys Chiddenton beat Rolvos with an assist from Zacher.
The Purple Eagles had seven shots on goal but could not solve Clark again.
Tomas Anderson came in for relief of Rolovs to start the third.
Canisius added to their lead at the 13:18 mark of the third period. Hunter Andrew scored on the Power-Play with assists from Jason Gallucci and Kiecker-Olson.
The Golden Griffins put the icing on the cake just over a minute later to make it 5-1 when McDermott completed his hat-trick with assists from Zacher and Porter.
Niagara put 10 shots on net in the final frame but ultimately could not find the back of the net.
