McKay Grand Slam Not Enough Against Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook rallied from behind to earn a 15-7 win over Niagara Friday afternoon to take the first of three games at Joe Nathan Field.

How it Happened
The Purple Eagles (1-9) fell victim to a big sixth inning rally by the Seawolves (5-6) despite a strong offensive start that saw Niagara build an early 6-2 lead.

Niagara's offense showed signs of life in the second inning when the Purple Eagles erupted for six runs. The rally was highlighted by McKay's grand slam home run down the right field line, which followed a two-run double by Schramm.

For a team that has struggled to find wins this season, the early advantage seemed promising, but Stony Brook methodically worked their way back into the game.

Stony Brook began chipping away with a run in the second inning before taking control with a four-run fifth inning. M. Jackson's three-run homer to right field gave the Seawolves their first lead at 7-6.
Niagara briefly tied the game at 7-7 in the sixth when Huang singled to left field to drive in Sanders, but the Seawolves responded with a five-run bottom half of the inning to pull away.

The Purple Eagles' pitching staff struggled with control throughout the game, issuing six walks and hitting four batters. Glenn (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Despite the loss, Sanders had a productive day at the plate for Niagara, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
