NU Comes From Behind to Beat SPU, Keeps Postseason Hopes Alive

JERSEY CITY, N.J.— Josiah Davis scored 21 points and Olumide Adelodun added 20 as Niagara rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit to defeat Saint Peter's 78-68 in overtime Thursday night at the Yanitelli Center, keeping the Purple Eagles MAAC Tournament hopes alive.

How it Happened
Will Shortt contributed a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Purple Eagles (11-19, 6-13 MAAC), who outscored the Peacocks 19-9 in the extra period after forcing overtime with a 15-8 run over the final 9:30 to tie the game in regulation.

Niagara, which trailed 38-27 at halftime, dominated the overtime session behind Davis, who went 13-for-17 from the free-throw line for the game. Adelodun hit a crucial 3-pointer in overtime as the Purple Eagles pulled away.

Mouhamed Sow led Saint Peter's (11-16, 6-13) with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Bryce Eaton added 17 points before fouling out. The Peacocks led for over 34 minutes of regulation but couldn't maintain their advantage.

The Purple Eagles overcame a poor shooting start by connecting on 46.7 percent of their 3-pointers (7-15) and 80.6 percent from the free-throw line (25-31). Niagara also dominated in fast break points (28-7) and had a decided advantage in bench scoring (27-25).

Niagara Notes
• Niagara moves to 55-41 all-time against Saint Peter's and earns its first season sweep of the Peacocks since 2012-13.
• The overtime win is Niagara's first since Feb. 2, 2024 at Saint Peter's.
• Davis and Adelodun become the first pair of Niagara teammates to each tally 20 or more points in a game since Harlan Obioha and Braxton Bayless did so against Manhattan on Jan. 5, 2024.
• Shortt recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

What Needs to Happen
• On Saturday, Niagara needs a win over Rider, a Saint Peter's win over Canisius, and a Quinnipiac win over Fairifled to earn the No. 10 seed in the MAAC Tournament.
• If that happens, each team will finish 7-13 in MAAC play and according to MAAC tiebreaker policy, Niagara (2-1) would earn the No. 10 seed over Fairfield (1-1), and Saint Peter's (1-2) by win percentage inside the mini conference.

Up Next
Niagara will head to Lawrenceville, N.J. to take on Rider on Saturday, March 8 at 2 p.m.
