GENEVA, Ohio -The Niagara University swimming teams made quite a splash on day one of the 2025 MAAC Championships, setting multiple program records and claiming a conference title in the women's 800-yard freestyle relay.
 
The Purple Eagles women's team sprinted to a share of first place with 74 points, tied with Fairfield University after Wednesday's opening session at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
 
The night was highlighted by a dominant performance in the women's 800 freestyle relay, where the team of 
Natalie Killion, 
Megan Jackson, 
Claire Gorton and 
Mary Carl shattered both the program and MAAC Championship records with a time of 7:23.19, nearly six seconds faster than the previous conference mark.
 
Earlier, Niagara's women's 200 medley relay team of Killion, 
Alaina Pitton, 
Maria Mitova and 
Paige South established a new program record of 1:41.15 while placing second. Killion's leadoff 50-yard backstroke split of 25.47 set another Purple Eagles record.
 
On the men's side, the 200 medley relay quartet of 
Reid Tichy, 
Sean Finley, 
Gio Germano and 
Levi Morgan posted a program-best 1:28.26 for third place, with Tichy's leadoff backstroke time of 27.76 marking another school record.
 
The Purple Eagles men sit in seventh place with 32 points after day one, with three days of competition remaining. Fairfield leads the men's standings with 77 points.
