BUFFALO, N.Y. — Niagara's swim teams claimed both medley relay titles and swept multiple individual events during a dominant performance at the Buffalo Invitational that concluded Saturday at Alumni Arena in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Purple Eagles' women opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as
Natalie Killion,
Alaina Pitton,
Mary Carl and
Megan Jackson combined for a time of 1:42.87.
On the men's side,
Vilem Mikula,
Lance Cruz, Alexander Subotich and
Will Manolitsas took the 200-medley relay in 1:30.78.
Marty Divis paced the women's 400 individual medley field with a time of 4:25.08, while
Thomas Latimer won the men's 400 IM in 3:56.60. Niagara swept the top five spots in the men's event, with
Holden Brock (4:02.25),
Ethan Hunter (4:02.99), Elliott Burgos (4:04.64) and
Andrew Davis (4:07.00) following Latimer.
Subotich earned his second victory of the day in the 100 butterfly, touching in 49.01.
Jura Domanovac (49.29) and
Nate Eaton (49.82) gave Niagara a 1-2-3 sweep of the event.
Killion captured the 200 freestyle in 1:49.44, and
Michael Levine won the men's 200 free in 1:39.97.
James Coyne added a second-place finish for the Purple Eagles in 1:42.00, giving Niagara a 1-2 finish.
Cruz and Pitton took the breaststroke events, with Cruz winning the men's 100 in 55.78 and Pitton claiming the women's race in 1:01.59. Jacob Lauzonis placed third for Niagara in the men's event (56.25).
Mikula completed a victory in the 100 backstroke (48.98), while
Nelson Maier finished second in 50.36 for another 1-2 finish.
In distance events, Divis won the women's 1650 freestyle (17:07.29), while
Jordan Grab (16:13.20) and Coyne (16:21.01) finished 1-2 in the men's 1650. Killion took the 200 backstroke in 1:57.71.
Hunter and Subotich went 1-2 in the 200 butterfly, with Hunter winning in 1:51.68 and Subotich second in 1:51.83. Eaton placed third (1:52.09) for a 1-2-3 sweep.
The Purple Eagles also swept the top two spots in the men's 200 backstroke, as Mikula (1:46.80) and Brock (1:47.52) finished ahead of the field.
The Niagara women capped the weekend by winning the 800-freestyle relay in 7:34.17, with Jackson, Killion,
Claire Gorton and Carl combining for the top time. The men's A relay team of Eaton, Latimer, Domanovac and Levine won in 6:43.34.
