EDISON, N.J. – Niagara women's lacrosse sophomore
Sydney Huhtala has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
This is the third time this season Huhtala has earned the honor.
Huhtala helped Niagara to a 2-0 week in MAAC play, registering seven caused turnovers, seven ground balls, and nine draw controls.
In Wednesday's road win at Mount St. Mary's the sophomore won six draw controls and caused three turnovers as Niagara earned a 14-10 win over The Mount.
On Saturday against Manhattan, Huhtala collected four caused turnovers and a season-high nine ground balls as Niagara allowed just six goals to the Jasper attack.
On the season, Huhtala is averaging 2.91 caused turnovers per game which ranks fourth in the nation and best in the league. She ranks fourth in the MAAC and 20th in the country with 2.91 ground balls per contest.
