Boston, Mass.—The Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) announced its weekly awards on Monday. Niagara's Glebs Prohorenkovs was named Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week while Tyler Wallace was named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week. Niagara went 2-0-1 on the week while picking up six points.
Prohorenkovs skated in three games for the Purple Eagles this week and had five points. On Friday in a 4-2 win over AIC, he scored once while having one assist. His goal came in the second period as the Purple Eagles were shorthanded, the goal was the first of four straight goals for the Purple Eagles. He also added an assist on Friday for a two-point game. On Saturday, he notched three points all of which were on the power play. He opened the scoring for Niagara for Niagara on the power play to tie the game at one. With eight minutes left in the third he once again scored on the power play to tie the game at three. He notched his third point of the game with the primary assist on the game tying goal to force overtime with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. This is the third Atlantic Hockey honor he has been awarded in his two-year career.
Wallace tallied three points in three games for the Purple Eagles as he had one goal and two assists. The Calgary, AB native tallied two assists in an overtime win over Canisus to start the week. His first assist helped Niagara gain a two-goal lead on the Griffs. His second helper of the weekend came in overtime as the Purple Eagles won 3-2 over the Griffs. Wallace scored his eighth goal of the season on Saturday as he tied the game at two with just under four minutes left in the second period. Wallace is currently tied for the team lead in goals with eight while having 11 assists in his freshman season. This is his first Atlantic Hockey weekly honor.
Niagara is back in action this weekend as they host Army at Dwyer Arena. Friday's game is scheduled for a 7 PM puck drop while Saturday's faceoff is scheduled for 5 PM.
