Bronx, N.Y.—The Niagara cross country teams closed out the 2023 season on Friday as both teams competed in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships. The Niagara men's team finished 34th while the women's team did not generate a team score as just three Purple Eagles competed.
Men's Recap
Braden York entered the 10k race holding every possible Niagara cross county record with the exception of the 10k record, he had the fourth fastest time in program history after running a 33:11 at last years NCAA Regionals. On Friday, he put his name atop another Niagara record as he ran a 31:07 to break the program record by over a minute and 30 seconds. York finished 84th overall in the race and was the top finisher for Niagara.
Caleb Noble was the second finisher for the Purple Eagles as he finished 221st with a time of 33:55.8 which is his new 10k personal best, last year he ran a 34.50.8 at the regional.
Luc DiFlavio and Caleb Harman finished back-to-back for the Purple Eagles at 244 and 245. The freshman Purple Eagles put up times of 35:21.8 and 35:25.6 respectively.
Brendan Kelly was the final Purple Eagle to cross the line as he finished 250th as finished with a time of 35:53.0.
Women's Recap
Alissa Mete finished first for the Purple Eagles as she had a time 22:48.9 which is the fourth fastest time in program history. She cut nearly a minute off her time from the MAAC Championship on Oct. 28.
Sara Mueller turned in a time of 23:35.5 as she closed out her junior season. She also set a new personal record with the time. Her previous record was set at the MAAC Championships, she cut 13 seconds off of her time.
Kate Pratt posted her best 6k time of the season as she finished the race with a time of 25:49.3. In her last two NCAA Regionals at Van Cortlandt Park she has set her best two 6k times of her career.
