Purple Eagles Complete MAAC Championships

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Niagara track and field team completed the MAAC Championships this weekend. Due to a Covid exposure, the number of student-athletes that were able to compete for the Purple Eagles was limited.

Meet Notes
  • Kate Pratt finished 12th in the preliminaries of the 400m dash. She ran the event in 1:03.26.
  • Amani Scott placed 15th in the 100m dash preliminaries with a time of 13.23. She finished 20th in the prelims for the 200m dash with a time of 27.90.
  • Meggie Hart finished 24th in the 1500m prelims with a time of 5:11.34.
  • Unfortunately, no student-athletes were qualifiers for finals events on Sunday.

Coach's Corner
  • "Of course, this was not the way we would have wished to finish our year," said head coach Christine Kloiber. "It was really difficult to only be able to bring a few athletes to the championship as we've worked very hard for the past seven months. Anyone involved in sport knows that athletics can transform you one day and break your heart the next, and that's true enough even without COVID interrupting the end of our season, but we've always talked to our athletes about how these moments are part of sport, and that's where resilience, gratitude and focus comes into play. Appreciate the opportunity to pursue your passion, maintain the motivation to grind out all aspects of the workout and acquire the ability to compartmentalize, bounce back from disappointment and recenter yourself. Throughout your sporting career, you need to do everything you can in order to prepare for when the moments to actualize your goals present themselves. I believe we did do that well for the most part, as we did accomplish a lot through the regular season in the short span of time we had. Even without having access to a track until March 26, the day before our first outdoor meet, we were able to produce a number of personal bests and all-time school top-5 performances this spring. And for the crew who made the trip to the championship, they carried that mantle to the end. It was rewarding for them to overcome the obstacles and represent the school at the MAAC Championship."
