Niagara Wins Series Finale Versus Manhattan

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles (15-30, 10-11 MAAC) won their series finale with Manhattan (22-25, 10-11 MAAC), 9-2, on Sunday.

Game Recap
  • An RBI single from Cole Tucker in the bottom of the first inning gave the Purple Eagles a 1-0 lead over the Jaspers.
  • With bases loaded for NU in the bottom of the second inning, Dawson Bailey hit a grand slam, sending four runs across the plate to extend the Niagara lead, 5-0.
  • Manhattan scored one run in the top of the fourth, but NU remained ahead, 5-1.
  • In the bottom of the fourth frame, Tucker went yard, driving in two runs to put the Purple Eagles up by six, 7-1.
  • In the fifth, an RBI single from Brady Desjardins scored Benny Serrano to give NU an 8-1 lead. Matt Ward then stole home plate to put the Purple Eagles ahead, 9-1.
  • The Jaspers added one run in the sixth to get within seven, 9-2, but they were retired in order in the seventh and eighth and NU held them scoreless in the ninth to earn the victory.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Bailey and Tucker led the Purple Eagles with two hits each.
  • Bailey had a team-high four RBIs and Tucker had three RBIs.
  • Bailey, Desjardins, Matt Ward and Cole O'Connor all swiped one bag.
  • Blake MacMillan (1-2) earned his first win of the season on the mound. He fanned four and gave up just one run on five hits in 5.0 innings pitched.
  • Ben Erwin struck out three in 3.0 innings of relief.
