Purple Eagles Fall To Jaspers, 9-4

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara baseball team (14-30, 9-11 MAAC) was defeated by Manhattan (22-24, 10-10 MAAC), 9-4, on Saturday.

Game Recap         
  • The Jaspers scored in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • In the bottom of the third, an RBI groundout from Dawson Bailey plated Spencer Marcus to tie the score, 1-1.
  • An RBI single from Brady Desjardins in the fifth frame put Niagara ahead of Manhattan, 2-1.
  • The Jaspers scored four runs in the top of the sixth to reclaim the lead, 5-2.
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning, an RBI single from Bailey put Niagara within two runs of the lead, 5-3.
  • Manhattan got four runs across in the top of the ninth to extend its lead over Niagara, 9-3.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, an RBI single from Marcus scored Vincent Mauro and cut the Manhattan lead to five, 9-4, but the Jaspers came away with the win.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Desjardins led NU with three hits and Marcus and Max Giordano each added two hits.
  • Bailey had a team-high two RBIs.
  • Bailey and Marcus each had one stolen base.
  • Marcus Cashman (2-4) took the loss. He fanned four and allowed three runs on four hits in 5.1 innings pitched.
  • Jacob Bruning struck out four in 3.0 innings out of the bullpen.
