Purple Eagles Shutout By Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Purple Eagles (2-22, 0-4 MAAC) were defeated by Monmouth (13-14, 4-0 MAAC), 8-0, on Friday.

Game Recap
  • Max Giordano had the first hit of the game for NU, doubling to right center to lead-off the second inning. He was able to advance to third on a later play, but was stranded on base.
  • The Hawks scored in the bottom of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • Matt Ward and Giordano both singled in the fourth frame, but NU remained scoreless.
  • Two RBI singles and a three-run homerun from Monmouth in the bottom of the fifth put the Hawks ahead of the Purple Eagles, 6-0.
  • The Hawks added two more runs in the eighth inning and retired Niagara in order in the ninth to earn the 8-0 win in the series opener.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Giordano had a team-high two hits. Ward, Cole Tucker and Brady Desjardins each added one hit.
  • Evan Wilde (1-6) took the loss. He struck out three and gave up five runs on seven hits in 4.0 innings pitched.
