Purple Eagles Shutout Peacocks For Fifth Straight Win

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Niagara baseball team (11-28, 6-8 MAAC) earned an 11-0 shutout victory over Saint Peter's (6-33, 3-11 MAAC) on Saturday to extend its win streak to five games.

Game Recap
  • In the top of the first inning, an RBI single from Cole O'Connor gave Niagara the lead, 1-0.
  • An RBI double off the bat of Benny Serrano in the second inning put NU up by two, 2-0.
  • Another RBI double from Serrano and a two-RBI single from O'Connor in the fourth inning gave the Purple Eagles a 5-0 lead over the Peacocks.
  • In the top of the eighth, a sacrifice fly from O'Connor plated Brady Desjardins. Cole Tucker then doubled to left field to score Dawson Bailey and put NU ahead of Saint Peter's, 9-0. Tucker scored on an error by the Peacocks and an RBI double from Spencer Marcus sent Max Giordano home to give Niagara an 11-0 advantage.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, after a lead-off single, the next three Peacocks were struck out swinging by Drew Patton to ice the 11-0 win for NU.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Serrano led the Purple Eagles in hits with four. He went 4-for-5 overall at the plate.
  • Bailey, O'Connor, Tucker and Matt Ward each had two hits.
  • O'Connor had a team-high four RBIs and Serrano had three RBIs.
  • Bailey, Tucker and Serrano each recorded two doubles.
  • Marcus Cashman (1-3) earned the win on the mound. He struck out four and gave up just two hits in 5.0 innings pitched.
  • Tyler Prospero and Drew Patton each fanned three and Steven Hospital struck out two.
