FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Purple Eagles (2-21, 0-3 MAAC) were narrowly defeated, 4-2, by the Fairfield Stags (13-13, 5-1 MAAC) on Sunday.

Game Recap

• In the top of the third inning, Vincent Mauro scored on a wild pitch to give the Purple Eagles a 1-0 lead over the Stags.
• A sacrifice fly from Benny Serrano in the third scored Brady Desjardins and put NU ahead of the Stags, 2-0.
• The Stags scored in the bottom of the fifth inning, but NU remained in the lead by one, 2-1.
• A three-run homerun from Fairfield in the bottom of the sixth put the Stags in the lead, 4-2.
• In the top of the seventh, Max Giordano hit a lead-off single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs in the board and two runners on base, Dawson Bailey was walked to load the bases for the Purple Eagles. The Stags, however, got the final out of the inning to keep NU from scoring.
• The Stags held NU off in the remainder of the game and came away with the 4-2 win to sweep the three-game series.

Eagle's Eye On

• Desjardins led NU in hits with two. Giordano and Cole Tucker each added one.
• Serrano recorded one RBI.
• Blake MacMillan struck out a career-high seven batters in 5.0 innings pitched in a no-decision start. He gave up just two hits, one walk and one earned run.
• Steven Hospital (1-1) took the loss. He struck out one while allowing three runs on two hits in 1.0 inning pitched.
