NU Defeats Saint Peter's, Extends Win Streak To Four Games

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Purple Eagles (10-26, 5-8 MAAC) extended their win streak to four games as they defeated Saint Peter's (6-32, 3-10 MAAC), 10-5, on Friday.

Game Recap
  • In the top of the second, Matt Ward was walked and Benny Serrano then doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Brady Desjardins was next up at the plate. He tripled to center field, scoring both Ward and Serrano to put NU ahead, 2-0. Desjardins scored an unearned run on the next play to give Niagara a 3-0 lead over the Peacocks.
  • The Peacocks got on the board in the bottom of the second inning and scored a second run in the third to cut the Purple Eagles' lead to one, 3-2.
  • An RBI single from Max Giordano in the fifth frame put NU up by two, 4-2.
  • Niagara had a big sixth inning. With one out on the board, Serrano and Desjardins both singled. A two-RBI double from Dawson Bailey scored both the runners to put the Purple Eagles ahead by four, 6-2. With bases loaded just a few plays later, Giordano doubled to left field, sending three runs across the plate to give Niagara a 9-2 lead over Saint Peter's.
  • The Peacocks got one run across in the seventh inning, but Niagara remained ahead, 9-3.
  • An RBI single from Cole Tucker in the top of the eighth put Niagara back in the lead by seven, 10-3.
  • Saint Peter's scored twice in the bottom of the ninth, but the Purple Eagles came away with the win, 10-5, to open their series with the Peacocks.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Bailey, Tucker, Giordano, Serrano, Desjardins and Cole O'Connor each had two hits.
  • Giordano had a team-high four RBIs. Bailey and Desjardins each batted in two runs.
  • Bailey, Desjardins and Serrano led NU in runs scored with two each.
  • Bailey and Serrano each had one stolen base.
  • Evan Wilde (2-7) earned the win. He struck out four and allowed three runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings pitched.
