Women's Lacrosse Hosts Marquette for Home Opener

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – After four-straight road games to start the season, Niagara women's lacrosse opens the home portion of its schedule against Marquette Sunday at noon at Niagara Field.
 
Last Time Out
• Niagara picked up a 15-10 win over Youngstown State a week ago.
• The Purple Eagles were led by Lois Garlow, who finished with four goals and one assist while collecting three ground balls and draw controls.
Lexi Braniecki and Rachel Crane recorded natural hat tricks to aid the Niagara attack, followed by Lucy Rugaber and Jaclyn Crane, who each found the back of the net twice.
Allison McCormick led NU with two assists against the Penguins.
Jess Foley and TaNia Cunningham recorded five ground balls apiece, and Rachel led the Purple and White with three caused turnovers.
Jordan Roy started in goal for Niagara, stopping eight of 18 shots faced.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara is averaging 9.25 goals through four games this season while posting a team shot on goal percentage of 73.1 percent.
• Garlow leads NU with eight goals and has three multi-goal games this season. The junior is also the team's assist leader with four through four games.
Rachel Crane and Braniecki are second and third on the team in scoring with seven and six tallies, respectively.
• Nine Purple Eagles have found the back of the net heading into Sunday's contest.
• Cunningham has recorded three or more ground balls in three games this season and currently leads the team with 12.
• Braniecki leads NU with 10 draw controls on the year, followed by Rachel Crane and Garlow, who are tied for second with seven.
• The Purple and White have used three goalies this season. After picking up her first career win last week, Roy leads the team with 86 minutes played. Maren Geiger leads Niagara with a goal against average of 12.04 and a save percentage of .417.
• On the season, Niagara is 40-for-54 on clear attempts, while its opponents have a 42-for-53 mark.
 
Series History
• Niagara and Marquette have met three times coming into Sunday, with the Golden Eagles winning all three meetings.
• The last time the two teams squared off on Monteagle Ridge was in 2019. Marquette won that meeting 16-12.
• Most recently, Niagara and Marquette went head-to-head in 2020, a 16-6 win for the Golden Eagles.
