Women's 800 Free Finishes First to Highlight Day One of MAAC Championships

BUFFALO, NY – The Niagara 800 Free relay team of Delaney Labue, Katrina Wardner, Yvonne Schere, and Moana Houde-Camirand took home first place in the women's 800 free relay, highlighting day one of competition at the MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.

After day one, the women are in second place with 102 points, trailing defending MAAC Champion Fairfield (109) by seven. The men are tied for third with 60 points as Rider is atop the standings with 70 total points.

Niagara's day started with a program record in the women's 200 medley relay. Paige South, Amanda Silva, Zoe Gavin, and Lila Maddux recorded a time of 1:45.02 for the program record.

The men placed third in the 200 medley relay; Gio Germano, Kevin Vu, Tanner Isaacs, and Levi Morgan finished with a time of 1:30.22. The time was a Niagara program record, surpassing the time the quartet set earlier this season.

Next up was the women's 1-meter diving final, where Sydney Sarkis and Morgan MacMahon qualified. MacMahon finished with a score of 200.75, good enough for fifth, and Sarkis finished sixth with a score of 194.85.

Next up was the women's 800 free relay, where the Purple Eagles got out to an early lead thanks to Wardner, who was first off the block for NU. Schere and Labue would keep Niagara in front before Haude-Camirand anchored the quartet and sealed the first-place finish for the Purple and White with a total time of 7:31.89. The time was just three seconds off the MAAC record.

The men's 800 relay team of Robert Flannery, Reid Tichy, Rowan Markham, and Nathan Dragon took home fifth place with a time of 6:44.36. The time was good enough for a the Purple Eagles' fourth program record of the night.
