Niagara Takes Sunday Afternoon Tilt Against Saint Peter's

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Purple Eagles capped off the weekend with a three-set win (25-11, 25-17, 25-20) over Saint Peter's, completing the weekend sweep without dropping a single set. The pair of league wins moves Niagara to 4-4 in MAAC play and 5-12 overall.
 
Match Recap
First Set
• With the score 8-7 in favor of the Purple Eagles, Niagara would roll off nine unanswered points to take a 17-7 lead.
Laryssa Imbuzeiro recorded a kill and a pair of kills to start the run and later added another service ace to total three off the Purple Eagle points during the run.
• Saint Peter's would make it an 18-10 games after taking two of three points.
• Niagara would then take four-straight points to go up by 12, 22-10. Jenna Vogen recorded an ace and kill to highlight the run for NU.
• After SPU recorded its 11th point of the set, Niagara took the final three points to clinch the set. Vogen sealed the set win with her fourth kill.
 
Second Set
• Niagara would have a 15-12 lead by the time the set reached the media timeout. Vogen and Kinga Wronska combined for six kills during the first portion of the set.
• Niagara's lead would grow to eight, 23-15, following the media timeout, with Vogen, Wronska, and Allie Simpson and Imbuzeiro recording kills.
• The Peacocks would take the next two points before NU sealed the 25-17 set win with a kill from Simpson and a Peacock attack error.
 
Third Set
• Niagara took a 7-4 lead early on in the third set, with two kills from Imbuzeiro and one apiece from Vogen and Liana Tolliver.
• That lead would grow to 11-5 after a 4-1 run for the Purple and White. The run was once again highlighted by Imbuzeiro and Vogen, as well as Taylor Allen.
• The Peacocks would go on a 4-0 run of their own to make it an 11-9 game.
• With NU up 15-12, the Purple Eagles rattled off three-straight points with two kills from Imbuzeiro and another from Allen to go up 18-12.
• The Peacocks would get within four a few times before Niagara sealed the set three win by the score of 25-20.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara has won three of its last four to improve to 4-4 in league play.
• This weekend's sweep is Niagara's first at home since it swept Iona and Manhattan on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31 of last season.
•  Vogen led Niagara with 11 kills, her third-straight contest with 10 or more kills. The 11 kills are also the fourth-most by a Purple Eagle in a three-set match this season.
Bella Peroni led NU with 16 digs, the fourth-most in a three-set match this season. The sophomore has now recorded 15-plus digs in seven matches this season, including five in league play.
• Imbuzeiro registered three aces on the afternoon, one shy of her season-best four against Canisius on Sept. 24.
• Niagara recorded a season-best .291 hitting percentage against SPU.
Kylie Blessing finished the game with 17 assists, one shy of her career-high.
 
Up Next
• Niagara will begin a four-game road swing at Siena next Saturday, Oct. 15, before traveling to Marist on Sunday, Oct. 16.
