Volleyball Set To Compete In Windy City Classic

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles (2-1) continue non-conference play this week at the Windy City Classic, hosted by Chicago State, Sept. 3-4. NU faces Chicago State (2-1) at 1:00 p.m. ET and Charlotte (2-1) at 6:00 p.m. ET on Friday, Sept. 3 and close out the tournament versus North Dakota State (1-2) at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 4.

Last Time Out

The Purple Eagles opened the fall 2021 season at the Colonel Classic, hosted by Nicholls State, Aug. 27-28.
Niagara went 2-1 at the tournament, defeating Southern University, 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 25-23, 25-18) and Texas Southern, 3-1 (25-21, 26-24, 25-20, 25-17) and falling to Nicholls State, 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-21).

Niagara Notes

Jaycie Roberts and Bella Peroni received MAAC weekly awards following their performances in the Colonel Classic. Roberts was named the MAAC Player of the Week and Peroni earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors.
Roberts recorded three straight double-doubles. On the weekend, she averaged 3.73 kills per set and 4.73 digs per set. She also led the team in aces with five total on the weekend.
Peroni recorded double-digit digs in two out of Niagara's three matches. On the weekend, she averaged 5.25 digs per set.
Jessica Streuer led the Purple Eagles in assists, averaging 5.82 assists per set. Casey Brown added 5.40 assists per set.
Mary Redl added 3.09 kills per set for NU and Sammie Sabra averaged 3.00 kills per set.
Redl, Taylor Allen and Laryssa Imbuzeiro led the team in blocking with eight total blocks each.
