Volleyball Kicks Off Season At Colonel Classic

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles volleyball team opens the fall 2021 season at the Colonel Class, hosted by Nicholls State, Aug. 27-28. Niagara matches up with Southern University (11:00 a.m. ET) and Nicholls (7:00 p.m. ET) on Friday and plays against Texas Southern on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Eastern.

Spring 2021 in Review

The Purple Eagles went 5-4 overall in spring 2021 and earned the No. 3 seed in the MAAC Tournament.
Niagara defeated No. 6 Iona in straight sets in the MAAC quarterfinals before falling to No. 2 Canisius in straight sets in the semifinals.
Amanda Darling was named the MAAC Libero of the Year and the MAAC Rookie of the Year and outside hitter Jaycie Roberts was named to the All-MAAC Team.

Niagara Notes

Darling, who was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team, led the country in digs per set (7.00). Darling also added 1.95 assists per set and had two service aces.
Roberts averaged a team-high 3.63 kills per set. She also added 4.50 digs per set, 16 total blocks (three solo, 13 assists) and had the second-most aces on the team with five.
Jessica Streuer led the Purple Eagles in assists with 6.71 per set and also had a team-high six service aces.
Taylor Allen led the team in blocking with 19 total blocks. She had a team-best six solo blocks and had 13 block assists.
Mary Redl added 2.58 kills per set for the Purple Eagles and was second in blocking with 17 total blocks (three solo, 14 assists).
Cassie Seminoff averaged 4.76 digs per set for NU.
